VMware Certified Professional – VMware Cloud Foundation Architect 2024

As many of you might already know VMware by Broadcom simplified its portfolio and VMware Cloud Foundation(VCF) is going to be the prime product offering moving forward. So skills on VCF would be on huge demand moving forward in private cloud environments.

I recently passed VCF Architect certification during early stages of this certification introduction and would like share my certification experience to the benefit of this certification aspirants.

Achieving this certification is no easy job without strong architectural concepts knowledge and work experience. Based on my knowledge most of the VMware certifications predominantly focuses on just core technical. But unlike earlier VMware certifications this VCF Architect certification majorly focusses on architectural concepts compared to technical concepts in my view.

Path to Certification

This certification cost is $250, you can schedule and give this through Pearson Vue either in person through authorized Pearson Vue test centers or Remotely through online with OnVUE. If you are planning for go for online then its recommended to test your system and internet connection from which you are planning to write your exam.

Key Focus Areas

  • Understand exam objectives 
  • Review real world VCF scenarios as many as you can
  • Review VCF 5.2 design guide
  • Fundamental understanding of VCF architecture – Compute, Storage and Networking
  • Different VCF architecture options and possibilities for different types of requirements
  • Translate Business objectives into technical solution
  • Differentiate between Business and technical requirements
  • Identifying, assessing and documenting Risks, Assumptions, Dependencies and Constraints for a VCF design
  • Differentiate between Conceptual, Logical and Physical
  • Making key design decisions based on requirements and understanding implications of design decisions
  • Understanding on design characteristics AMPRS – Availability, Manageability, Performance, Recoverability and Security
  • VCF scalability aspects and capacity planning, DR, Compatibility and Interoperability
  • RPO and RTO aspects of disaster recovery
  • Efficient migration options
  • During time I gave this exam there was no testable objectives from Install, Configure, Administrate, Troubleshoot and Optimize to VMware Solution sections.
  • Time Management is crucial
    • You will get 135 minutes for 60 questions and you need to score 300 and above to pass the exam.
    • Its easy to get lost deep thinking into some of these scenarios. Please mark time talking one for review and move on. Address time taking ones in the end if possible.
  • Architect mindset. Don’t just see everything from core technical angle. Wear architect hat.

Conclusion

You will see scenario based questions in this exam where you need to identify or differentiate and select correct answer. Might not be easy in case if you don’t have prior work experience or you have practiced enough.  Review VMware VCF design guides, understand and practice by creating your own designs for different type of business and technical scenarios. VCF is going to transform the way on prem datacenters looks like and will give public cloud like experience in the on prem itself. As we are seeing public cloud repatriation stories every day VCF is going to be key skill and rewarding skill moving forward. You gaining this certification and skill is worth the time and will put you in spot light among peers and industry. 

This certification is not easy, but with right preparation and architecture mindset you can pass this exam and become a certified VCF Architect!
