Use 4.1.0.2 in stead of 4.1.0:

  • VMware has to withdraw 4.1.0 version as there was an issue and it is recommended to use 4.1.0.2 in stead of 4.1.0 version.

Multi Tenancy:

  • Is now supported through NSX UI.
  • Different views for different users.
  • Option to switch between projects. Where entitled users with multiple projects can easily switch between projects.
  • Enterprise Admin can see consolidated all project screen showing all configurations.
  • Some project lifecycle management and operations & monitoring features.

IPv6: 

  • With this version NSX internal management plane and control planes between ESXi hosts/Transport Nodes and NSX managers can communicate using IPv6 address
  •  IPv6 is preferred over IPv4 in dual stack scenarios.
  • IPv6 support for IPsec VPN

Multi-TEP HA:

  • When hypervisor has multiple TEPs, NSX will track TEP IPs and BFD and will failover overlay traffic to another uplink in case not only physical failures but also situations where there is no physical link failure but switch port remains up but traffic not forwarding properly as well.
  • I personally saw this problem earlier multiple times during validation. Its good to see this one got fixed in this release.

Quick Recovery from Upgrade Failures:

  • This is a good news for environments you would like to upgrade but there is a problem with taking backups or backups are not configured.
  • This feature will take automated backup and save it in NSX manager appliance itself and in case of upgrade failure VMware support can quickly restore NSX to a working state, using this in-build backup.

Online Diagnosis:

  • Online diagnostic system provides diagnosis for issues and will provide recommended actions to fix the issues this will automates good amount of troubleshooting time. 

Features Deprecated:

  • NSX built-in “Load Balancer” to which VMware stopped feature enhancements is not deprecated and customers using NSX built-in load balancers are advised to move to NSX Advanced Load Balancer (AVI). customer will be provided with AVI basic licenses free of cost and AVI basic will have feature parity with NSX built-in load balancer. Customer should purchase AVI Enterprise license in case of advanced use cases.
  • Early Indicator – VMware will remove support for Manager API (/api) and it is recommended to use or migrate to Policy API (/policy/api) in case if you are using any configurations through Manager API method.
